History

The history of standardization activities spans more than 90 years in Azerbaijan. Standardization activities have been implemented by various institutions in different periods.

By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 10, 2017, with the number 1234, additional measures related to the improvement of management in the fields of standardization, metrology, accreditation, and protection of intellectual property objects were established. Under the administration of the State Committee on Standardization, Metrology, and Patent of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the "Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization," a legal entity, was created.

By the Presidential Decree number 5 dated April 20, 2018, with the title "On measures to improve management in the field of control over the consumer market, standardization, metrology, and protection of intellectual property rights," the State Committee on Standardization, Metrology, and Patent of the Republic of Azerbaijan was abolished. The "Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization" retained its legal entity status and was placed under the newly created Anti-Monopoly and Consumer Market Regulation State Agency with central executive authority.

By the Presidential Decree number 845 dated October 23, 2019, titled "On the expansion of functions and structure of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan," the Anti-Monopoly and Consumer Market Regulation State Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with the corresponding state service status, was included in the structure of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. With this decree, the "Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization" retained its legal entity status and was placed under the Consumer Market Regulation State Service within the Ministry of Economy alongside the Anti-Monopoly and Consumer Market Regulation State Agency.
