International registration systems

There are several international treaties establishing international registration system for industrial property objects. The Republic of Azerbaijan is the member of the treaties on “International Registration of Marks under the Madrid Agreement and the Madrid Protocol”, the “1999 Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs (“Hague Agreement”)” and the “Patent Cooperation Treaty”.

Above-mentioned treaties create opportunity for individuals and legal entities to register industrial property objects outside of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as to obtain protection in the territory of several or all member states in one single application.

On 2 October 2006 there was adopted Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on joining to the Protocol relating to the Madrid AgreementConcerning the International Registration of Marks. Individuals and legal entities in Azerbaijan can file an international application under the Madrid System for international registration of marks. There was adopted Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on joining to the Geneva (1999) Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International registration of Industrial Designs on 22 June 2010. Any individual or legal entity in Azerbaijan can file an international application under the Hague System for international registration of industrial designs. The Republic of Azerbaijan joined to the “Patent Cooperation Treaty” from the date of 14 September 1995. Individuals and legal entities in Azerbaijan can file a patent application under the PCT System for international registration of inventions.
